Blast from the past

Astra's new offering for your hearing pleasure.

Astra clearly worship prog's earliest, most rampantly creative and excessive years. It must have been tempting to go overboard in an artistic frenzy, but the band is too sharp-witted for such intemperate pursuits. Although they utilize an endless array of vintage and analog gear, they remain committed to ensuring the songs have plenty of room to breathe. You might hear snatches of Hawkwind or Uriah Heep on occasion, but Astra's tunes are engaging and distinctive on their own terms. While The Weirding opened the book on Astra's musical revelations, The Black Chord sets out to fulfill their prophecies. It's shorter, more concise but no less of an adventurous journey. It's dazzling and celestial—a point noted directly in the album's more Martian artwork -  Full Review Here

Forbidden Treasure

From what I know, these guys are really strict about copyright stuff and free file share so I have to share it to you guys in a discreet manner. " If you want something for late nights, bad dreams, occult rituals, meditative journeys or psychedelic excursions, you have found your match"

Weltraum - Les Golax (2011)

I have waited a while to upload this one, as I didn't want to hamper their CD sales (and also their label :). Listen to their previous album here, which is of course just as brilliant. In a nutshell, they are an experimental psychedelic group creating original music. They heavily use electronics in their music, and often indulge in far out  improvisational jams.

Here
Physical copies are sold out now.

Cult Of Dom Keller - EP3 (2011)

Here is the EP3, an excellent follow up to their previous album. This band I was lucky enough to witness performing live in a crowd of about hardly 10 people in Twickenham Fox pub, with Plastic Crimewave Sound and a local band Hypnotic Eye.

If you havent heard those old ones then visit my friend mr. A here.
And then a short brainless review Blah, blah, blah, blah, psychedelic, blah, blah, trippy, blah, blah, awesome.

The Sun Shines Every Day

Firstly, R.I.P to Joe Yamanaka from Flowering Travellin' Band  who sadly passed away a few days ago.  May his voice and legacy be remembered by all psych fans.

Back to topic, this album, which I was highly anticipating, was leaked before it's schedule.

Link will be posted after release of the album. Message me if you are desperate

Mushroom - I Don't Remember Yesterday, Today it Rained (2011)

Sapat - Mortoise And Tenon (2007)

"Sapat packs a few surprises in their grooves for those who think they already know the score. Airy and pristinely recorded in a comfortable mid-fi that’s been heretofore unknown in the annals of the label’s back catalogue,Mortise and Tenon rarely falters. Captured here is a band that understands the limitations inherent in Nth generation psych rehash, and rather than pine for a long-gone zeitgeist, these eight hunker down with a batch of supple tunes that play to admirable strengths and a keen, intuitive knowledge of how to mine a generally tapped mainline in all the right ways. Miles away from the band’s still excellent debut, Sapat’s inaugural full-length shuffles the cards and deals a hand steeped in rich tradition that never once sounds like a haphazard pastiche." - DustedReviews

Escapade - But Distractions Abound (2006)

Repetitive psychedelic jams in the vein of Neu. The band's debut was a split album with Acid Mothers Temple, so you know they are good.
This band is one of the three amazing recommendations given to me over the past few weeks by three people with extraordinary music library. This one was by mustaba1234. Predictively, I will post the other two later

Finnish Experimental Psych

You might have noticed band members requesting to take down some of the recent links which is why I have resorted on using WWS/Sludge Swamp style titles so only the chosen few i.e. followers of the blog will be able to download them.
"Their first CD was recorded and released in 2009 by Silakka label. The music is powerful, trashy psychedelic flow, uncompromized, sincere and powerful. Approavch is slightly similar with aggressive krautrock experintations like of early AMON DÜÜL, though better produced. Also the menacing neurotic drones of PHARAOH OVERLORD could be an association, though this group is more varying in their approach than many stoner rock groups are.
Sounds are quite dirty and there is much musical content, ranging from oppressive dark passages to more open, light and calm moments, and also from focused musical constructiveness to sincere playful dadaism. Sometimes the guitar is heavily treated with electronics, concealing the original source of sound and expanding the pallette of sound texture from classical acid rock trio sound. In addition of violent mantras there are also visits from acoustic instruments and also electronic music." - Progarchives

The Ovals - Into The Eyes Of Those Who Sleep (2011)

"Melbourne’s The Ovals’ new EP Into The Eyes Of Those Who Sleep seems them come cross a bit more ‘Manchester’ than the mystical sounds of their debut EP Innerspace. They still have the swirling keyboard and big prog-rock guitar builds; opening track ‘Refugees’ in particular has a sprawling and wondrously cosmic feel to it. ‘Lost With Bones’ doubles ominous bass looming over drums, screams and a vocal reminiscent of Joy Division’s ‘She’s Lost Control’ to darken the mood somewhat before the sparse and spaced-out hypnotic kraut-jam of ‘Heretic’." - Andy Ryan

Puffy Areolas - In The Army 1981 (2010)

So it looks like I have to do another mini-review, as i can't find any in the internet.
Their sound immediately gives me flashback of the earlier noise-psych Comets On Fire and a bit of Iggy Pop. There also seems to be influences of Punk, with the energetic vocals and frantic beat of the instruments. The track "Get Me Out of Horizon" even has 3 minutes of drone before the vocals kick in. In this way these guys have emerged various genres into their sound that complement each other well.

Tangle Edge - In Search Of A New Dawn (1989)

" These are all compositions blending raga-like arrangements, slightly psychedelic guitar and sitar, eastern instrumentation, and trance rhythms. Hardcore psych thirty years after the stuff was in vogue. But these guys do what they do very well, and all of them are seriously accomplished musicians with totally mastery over the instruments." - progarchives

Silver Bullets - Free Radical (2009)

William Giacchi of Magic Lantern and Super Minerals reports: ‘While visiting family in southern Sicily last December, I caught up with an old friend who has shared a very similar trajectory with me in interests of psychedelic music both newer and vintage, local and global. Much to my elated surprise, he has been equally busy producing new sounds of his own, having lately assembled a mysterious psychedelic groove ensemble known as Silver Bullets. I sat in on a recording session and realized I was in the presence of psychic brethren, and that Stunned Records would be the perfect platform to introduce their brand of tonal gyration. Both the Silver Bullets and Phil & Myste were thrilled about the partnership, and thus we present “Free Radical” — two sides, eleven tracks of kraut-funk, coned-out drone rock, and assorted experiments with space and time. Wade through bluesy head-nodders, Italian fuzz contests, interplanetary bleeps and blips, and liberated dance songs for anti-environments. Taking spiritual cues from Don Cherry’s Eternal Rhythm, “Free Radical” is a statement of unity through musical expression and an ecstatic celebration of existence. Play this tape at full moon and brace yourself for the unforeseen happenings.’” Limited & hand numbered edition of 100 pro-dubbed & imprinted clear green c48 tapes in oversized single-cassette vinyl album Stunned Records - Last.fm

Jackie-O Motherfucker - Valley Of Fire (2007)

To save you from reading nonsensical Pitchfork review, i will briefly give my opinion.  This album sounds like free form music with psychedelic elements. I have been using the word "hypnotic" a lot in my reviews, and i will have to use it again to describe this album. It's like a long peaceful psychedelic meditation.

Forest Swords - Dagger Paths (2010)

One man band of Matthew Barnes from Liverpool.  This is a very hypnotic album and comes highly recommended to fans of Fuck Buttons.

While Fuck Buttons channel the urban energy into their songs with high noise, Forest Swords channel the wilderness with a more serene and peaceful approach. Sorry about the brief review (if  it can be called review). I'm a very lazy man
